A Sirajganj court has sentenced a man to death for murdering his wife over a dowry dispute in Tarash upazila in 2011.
The verdict was passed on Wednesday by Judge Begum Salma Khatun of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2, confirmed Public Prosecutor Md. Masudur Rahman.
The convict, Md. Matiur Rahman Khadgir alias A. Matin, is the son of Md. Baher Ali Khadgir from Vyat village in Tarash upazila.
According to case details, Matin frequently tortured his wife Sabina Yasmin after their marriage, demanding dowry. On the night of September 29, 2011, he strangled her to death and dumped her body in a nearby paddy field. Police later recovered the body.
Sabina’s elder brother, Md. Abdul Razzak, filed a murder case with Tarash Police Station following the incident.
