The national election will be held on scheduled time without any delay, said Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government.
He made the remarks on Thursday (July 31) while speaking as the chief guest at a dialogue organised by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the media centre of the Secretariat in Dhaka.
“You can be certain about one thing — there will be no delay in the election. The Chief Adviser, Professor Yunus, has clearly said that the election will be held on time. Not a single day will be delayed,” Shafiqul Alam said.
He said Chief Adviser had initially mentioned early April as the possible time for the election.
“Later, in London, we said that if key reforms are implemented and progress is made, the election could be held in February. We are still working within that timeframe. There will not be a day’s delay,” he said.
Shafiqul Alam also expressed hope that the polls would be held in a festive and peaceful atmosphere.
“However, we will make the highest possible effort to bring the level of violence down to zero,” he added.
