Pranab Sarkar, President of Agartala Press Club and editor of Headlines Tripura National, has been nominated as convenor of the newly formed Tripura Chapter of the SAARC Journalists Forum.

For the first time, an international organisation of journalists—the SAARC Journalists Forum—has established its presence in Tripura. 

The chapter was officially announced on Thursday (31 July) by the Forum’s central committee president Raju Lama from Nepal.

The formation of this chapter marks a new chapter in Tripura’s journalism history, providing a platform for professional exchange and collaboration among journalists from SAARC countries. The forum is expected to play a significant role in enhancing journalistic cooperation across South Asia.

Pranab Sarkar has been entrusted with the responsibility of forming the full committee of the Tripura Chapter. He currently also serves as the All-India Secretary of the Journalists’ Union and was recently nominated as a member of the country’s National Press Club. This initiative is seen as opening a new horizon for the journalistic community in Tripura.

In a congratulatory message, SAARC Journalists Forum Secretary General Md Abdur Rahman said that under the leadership of the distinguished journalist Pranab Sarkar, the Forum’s presence in Tripura would be further strengthened.

President of the SAARC Journalists Forum India Chapter, Dr Aniruddha Sudhanshu, and President of the Bangladesh Chapter, Nasir Al Mamun, also extended their congratulations to Pranab Sarkar on his new role.
