Thirty-three people remain admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery following the Bangladesh Air Force jet crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara, with three in critical condition in the ICU.
Doctors say the condition of the burn victims has not yet stabilised. Alongside treatment for physical injuries, the institute is prioritising psychological support and trauma care for all patients.
“Currently, 33 patients are under treatment. Of them, three are in the ICU, eight are in the severe burn category, 19 are being treated in cabins, and the rest are in general wards,” said Professor Dr Nasir Uddin, director of the institute, at a press conference on Tuesday (July 29).
He added that there has been no significant change in patients’ physical condition since yesterday. “No one will be discharged today, but some patients may be released later this week in phases.”
Mental health support is being given “the highest priority,” Dr Nasir said, noting ongoing consultations with the Ministry of Health and the Health Adviser to ensure comprehensive care.
He also said that even those who are discharged will return for follow-up treatment, and some may require surgery later.
