A low-pressure area has developed over the northern Bay of Bengal, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to issue cautionary alerts across all maritime ports due to potential stormy conditions.

Meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir confirmed on Thursday (July 24) that a low-pressure system has formed over the northern Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas, and it may intensify further.

As a result, variations in air pressure are prevailing over the northern Bay, which could trigger squally weather over the Bay, Bangladesh’s coastal regions, and maritime ports.

The meteorological office instructed Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra ports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

In a separate forecast, the department also warned that regions including Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, and areas surrounding Khulna may experience temporary gusts or squally winds at speeds of 45–60 km/h from the south/southeast direction, accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

River ports in these areas have been advised to display cautionary signal No. 1.
