Myanmar’s armed rebel group Arakan Army has abducted three Bangladeshi fishermen after opening fire in the Naf River near Teknaf on Monday (May 12) afternoon.
The abducted fishermen have been identified as Siddiq Hossain (27), Robiul Alam (27), and Mahmud Hossain (30)—all residents of Lamarpara in East Leda, Hnila Union.
According to Mohammad Ali, Chairman of Hnila Union, the fishermen were kidnapped at gunpoint while fishing in the river. Earlier in the day, the Arakan Army fired shots at them before chasing and capturing them.
According to local fisherman Mohiuddin that the three men were fishing when Arakan Army members suddenly fired from Myanmar’s side. The group then captured the fishermen along with their boat while others nearby managed to escape.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin confirmed the matter.
He said that authorities are investigating the matter further.
