The government has decided to restructure the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), according to Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

A committee has been formed to oversee the restructuring process. Additionally, authorities have decided that police will no longer carry lethal weapons.

The announcement was made on May 12 after a meeting of the advisory council on law and order at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Jahangir Alam also said that garment workers' wages must be paid before Eid, though illegal demands will not be tolerated, and strict measures will be taken.

To prevent extortion in cattle markets, 100 Ansar personnel will be deployed at each market. Instructions have also been given to ensure safe travel for passengers and prevent road extortion.
