Politically harassed victims can apply case withdrawal at law ministry

The government decided that a victim of politically motivated harassment cases can now directly apply to the Solicitor of the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law for the withdrawal of such cases.

This decision was made at the 11th meeting of the committee on withdrawal of politically motivated cases, held on Sunday (April 20) at the Secretariat.

The meeting was chaired by the Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

According to sources, to speed up the ongoing process of case withdrawals, any person accused in a politically motivated case filed between January 6, 2009, and August 5, 2024, can submit a direct application for withdrawal. The application must include an attested copy of the First Information Report (FIR) and, where applicable, the charge sheet.

The committee also recommended the withdrawal of 724 more cases at Sunday’s meeting. In previous meetings, 7,570 cases had already been recommended for withdrawal. With the latest decision, the total number of recommended withdrawals stands at 8,294.

The committee also decided to gradually withdraw all politically motivated cases filed during the mentioned timeframe.
