Bangladesh and Pakistan have resumed Foreign Secretary-level talks after a 15-year hiatus, with a bilateral meeting underway in Dhaka.
The meeting began at 10:30am today (April 17) at the State Guest House Padma, with Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary M Jasim Uddin leading the host delegation.
His Pakistani counterpart, Amna Baloch, is heading the visiting team.
Discussions are focusing on a wide range of issues including bilateral relations, regional security, trade, investment, agriculture, and air connectivity. The matter of Bangladesh’s outstanding debt to Pakistan is also likely to be raised.
Officials said the visit schedule of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar may be finalised during the talks. Dar is expected to visit Dhaka later this month.
Amna Baloch arrived in the Bangladeshi capital on Wednesday to participate in the long-anticipated meeting.
Following the discussions, Foreign Secretary Jasim Uddin is scheduled to brief the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 5:30 pm.
Baloch is also expected to pay a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The last Foreign Secretary-level meeting between the two countries was held in Islamabad in November 2010.
