President has directed the Supreme Judicial Council to conduct a full investigation into High Court Division Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman.
The Supreme Court administration confirmed the matter on Sunday (March 23).
On October 16, 2024, following student protests demanding the resignation of "biased, corrupt, and fascist-aligned" judges, twelve High Court judges were initially barred from judicial duties starting October 20. Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman was among them.
According to Supreme Court administration the Supreme Judicial Council had earlier submitted information about Justice Akhtaruzzaman to the President under Article 96 of the Constitution. Based on this, the President, following Article 96(5)(b), instructed the council to carry out a full investigation.
Among the twelve judges, two have retired, one has resigned, one was removed, and two completed their terms. Now, an investigation has been ordered only against Justice Akhtaruzzaman.
