A fire that broke out in the forest near the Tepar Beel area under Kolomteji Camp in the Dhansagar forest station of the Sundarbans East Division was brought under control by this morning.
Dhansagar station officer, Bipuleshwar Debnath, confirmed that although fire service personnel left by evening, the forest department kept working to put out the fire using pumps and pipelines since 9:00 PM yesterday.
A three-member investigation committee, led by Assistant Forest Conservator (ACF) Dwipan Chandra Das of the Chandpai Range, has been formed to determine the cause of the fire.
The committee has been asked to submit its findings promptly.
Locals first spotted the fire around 9:00 AM yesterday.
The forest department, along with residents, tried to control the blaze by noon, and by the afternoon, five fire service units arrived to assist.
