Today, March 14, marks the 49th death anniversary of renowned poet Jasim Uddin, who passed away on this day in 1976.
Born on January 1, 1903, in Tambulkhana, Faridpur, Jasim Uddin is hailed as the first modern poet to beautifully blend traditional Bengali culture with his works.
A graduate of Calcutta University, he later became a lecturer at Dhaka University and worked at the Department of Information and Broadcasting until his retirement.
His legendary work, Nakshi Kanthar Math, remains a masterpiece, translated into multiple languages. Other notable works include Rakhali, Sojan Badiar Ghat, and Rongila Nayer Majhi.
A discussion on his life and work will be held today at his Kamalapur residence, organized by Boktrita Proshikkhon Kendra, with poet Shahjahan Abdali in the chair.
