AIMIM Chief and five-time Member of Parliament from the Hyderabad constituency, Asaduddin Owaisi, on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that no Bangladeshi infiltrators are in Bihar, but Sheikh Hasina is residing in Delhi.

The development comes amid the soaring political decibel in Bihar after the BJP alleged that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Bihar, particularly in Seemanchal, a region with a sizeable muslim population.

Leading the charge, PM Modi had accused Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of patronising 'infiltrators' in the state at an election rally last week. Responding to PM Modi’s claim, Owaisi on Thursday said that there were no Bangladeshi immigrants in Seemaanchal, where his party secured five seats in the last assembly elections.

AIMIM Chief said, "Modi ji says that there are Bangladeshis in Bihar. Modi ji, there are no Bangladeshis in Bihar and Seemanchal region. But you have a sister from Bangladesh sitting in Delhi. Send her to Bangladesh. Bring her to Seemanchal, and we will drop her in Bangladesh.”

It was a subtle dig, directed towards former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, who fled Dhaka after being ousted as PM. She had fled Dhaka on August 5, 2024, after resigning as PM, moments before an angry crowd breached her house.

The issue of illegal immigrants residing in Bihar is among the key issues that the BJP has been raising in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, scheduled for later this year. Over the last few months, India has seen a crackdown at the regional levels to identify Bangladeshis living illegally.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been vocal about the issue of "infiltrators" in India, particularly in Bihar. He mentioned the issue in both his Independence Day speech and during an election rally in Purnea, where he claimed that infiltration has led to a "demographic crisis" in the country.
