Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of Bangladesh came to a standstill on Sunday (Sept 21) after the Dhaka-bound Parabat Express suffered an engine failure in Laskarpur, Habiganj Sadar upazila.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm when the Parabat Express, carrying over 1,000 passengers from Sylhet, developed a mechanical problem near the Laskarpur rail gate and came to a halt on the track.
Gourprasad Das Palash, station master of Banugachh Railway Station, confirmed that the breakdown also left other trains, including the Sylhet-bound Paharika and Chattogram-bound Udayan Express, stranded on their routes.
He said it was not immediately clear what caused the failure or how long repairs would take, leaving passengers facing significant delays.
