The local administration has imposed Section 144 in Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila following a confrontation between two rival groups on Saturday (September 6).
The restriction was announced in an order signed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Hathazari, Muhammad Abdullah Al Mumin on Saturday night.
According to the order, Section 144 has been enforced from Mirsarai’s Hat to the Eleven Mile Substation, and from the Hathazari upazila gate to the Agricultural Training Institute, including adjacent areas, effective from 10 pm Saturday until 3 pm Sunday (September 7).
During this period, all types of gatherings, processions, rallies, demonstrations, carrying of explosives, firearms, or any traditional weapons, as well as the movement or gathering of five or more people in the specified areas, have been strictly prohibited.
Earlier in the afternoon, a clash broke out between the two groups, during which several vehicles were vandalized. One group took position in front of Hathazari Madrasa, while the other gathered at the Hathazari bus stand, escalating tension in the area.
Despite the unrest, no law enforcement personnel were seen on the ground at that time.
Later, the administration imposed Section 144 to bring the situation under control and maintain peace and order.
