Renowned educationist, essayist and Independence Award-winning writer Professor Jatin Sarkar has passed away.
He died on Wednesday (August 13) at 2:45pm while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The news was confirmed to the media by Emdadul Haque Millat, president of the Mymensingh district committee of CPB.
Jatin Sarkar had long suffered from various age-related complications. In June, he fell and sustained a hip bone injury, after which he was taken to Dhaka for treatment. Last week, he was brought back to Mymensingh, where he remained under medical care.
Sarkar served two terms as president of the central council of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi.
His body will be taken to Udichi’s Mymensingh office for paying respects. However, no decision has yet been made regarding the funeral.
