Rain likely to persist for 4–5 more days

Widespread rainfall has continued across Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, as the monsoon remains active. The persistent showers have disrupted daily life in many areas.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast on Monday (July 28) that the rainfall would continue for the next four to five days.

The monsoon is currently active over the country and moderate over the northern Bay of Bengal.

In the 24 hours preceding 6am Monday, the following rainfall amounts were recorded: Dhaka 50 mm, Rajshahi 2 mm, Rangpur 4 mm, Mymensingh 1 mm, Sylhet 31 mm, Chattogram 72 mm, Khulna 8 mm, and Barishal 3 mm.

From 9 am onward, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are expected in most areas of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions.

Some areas in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may also experience moderately heavy to heavy rainfall.

Day and night temperatures across the country may drop slightly.

This weather pattern is expected to persist until August 1. The BMD also noted that rainfall activity may increase further in the five days following August 1.
