Two brothers were killed after a speeding bus rammed into a stationary pickup van on the Feni-Noakhali regional highway in Feni Sadar upazila early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 29, and his younger brother Ekram Hossain, 18, sons of Shah Alam from Lakshiyara Ujalia Kazi Bari in Panchgachhia union.
Officer-in-Charge of Mohipal Highway Police Station Md Harunur Rashid confirmed the incident.
According to their cousin Md Sujan, Mosharraf worked for a transport company named Alvi Enterprise. On Thursday night, one of the company's pickup vans fell into a roadside ditch in the Panchgachhia area. Mosharraf and Ekram went to the spot to retrieve the vehicle.
At 3am, while they were standing behind the recovered van near Tamim Digital Weighing Scale, a Noakhali-bound bus of 'Lal Sabuj Paribahan' struck the vehicle from behind, critically injuring both brothers.
Locals rushed them to Feni General Hospital, where Mosharraf was declared dead upon arrival. Ekram later died while being transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
