The holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), will be observed across the country tomorrow with due respect and religious solemnity.

Tomorrow marks the 10th day of Muharram in the Hijri calendar-1447, known as the holy Ashura. It is remembered as the day of Karbala — a tragic event that holds deep religious significance for Muslims worldwide.

On this day in 680 AD, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), along with his family members and 72 followers, embraced martyrdom in the desert of Karbala while standing for truth and justice against the oppressive forces of Yazid.

On the eve of Ashura, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a message paying deep respect to Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and all martyrs of Karbala. Terming the day as mournful yet glorious, he said, “On this mournful day of holy Ashura, I pay my deepest respects to Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), the beloved grandson of our Prophet (PBUH), and to all those who were tragically martyred in the desert of Karbala.”

He said that the sacrifice at Karbala will remain a shining example of standing against tyranny and will inspire future generations to uphold truth, justice, and peace. He urged all to grasp the significance of the day, engage in good deeds, and work for unity, justice, and peace in society.

The day is a public holiday. Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels will air special programmes, while mosques, including the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, will hold special prayers and discussions to mark the occasion.
