A local Jubo Dal leader was shot dead by armed assailants at a local market in Raufan’s Kadalpura union under Chattogram’s Raozan upazila on Sunday.
The victim, Mohammad Selim, 40, was a resident of South Shamsher Para area in the union’s Ward-6. He was the member secretary of the convening committee of the Jubo Dal’s Kadalpura union unit. Selim was the son of late Amir Hossain.
The incident happened around 12:30pm at Ishanbhatta Bazar, where several miscreants riding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw arrived and opened fire at him in front of a local shop. He died on the spot..
However, locals rushed Selim to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Selim’s wife Ferdous Akter said she was returning from a funeral prayer with her daughter when they stopped at Ishanbhatta Bazar to buy medicine. “As we got on the motorcycle, two people wearing burqas came out of a CNG auto-rickshaw and opened fire.”
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the murder.
“We are collecting information from witnesses and CCTV footage. All angles are being investigated,” he added.
