Two cleaners of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) were killed when a covered van ran them over in the Khilkhet area of the capital early Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Ashraful Alam, 60, and Nihar, 40.

Md Sajjad Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Khilkhet Police Station, confirmed the incident.

He said the accident took place near the Le Meridien Hotel around dawn.

"The driver of the covered van has been arrested, and the vehicle has been seized," the OC added.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
