Mild heatwave sweeps parts of Bangladesh: Met Office

A mild heat wave is currently sweeping over the Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, as well as several districts across Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its latest bulletin issued Thursday (June 12) morning.

The heat wave is affecting Tangail, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Feni, Brahmanbaria, Bagerhat, Jashore, Kushtia, and Chuadanga. However, it may subside in some areas over the next 24 hours, according to the BMD forecast.

“Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country,” the bulletin stated.

The highest temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 37°C in Rajshahi, Ishurdi, Rangpur, and Dimla stations, while the lowest temperature of 24.3°C was noted in Bandarban on Wednesday morning.

Kutubdia in Cox’s Bazar District received the highest rainfall over the past 24 hours, recording 41 millimetres.

The Met Office also predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds at a few places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.

Isolated showers are also likely in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Dhaka divisions, with chances of moderately heavy falls in some areas.

In the capital, Dhaka, sunset is expected at 6:47 pm today, while sunrise tomorrow will be at 5:10 am.
