Bangladeshi pilgrims have begun returning home following the completion of all formalities of the holy Hajj pilgrimage.
Return flights commenced on Tuesday (June 10) and will continue until July 10, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
This year, 87,157 pilgrims from Bangladesh performed Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, officials confirmed that 19 Bangladeshi pilgrims died during the pilgrimage.
Saudi authorities implemented heightened security measures during the Hajj season. The Saudi Interior Ministry reported that 436 unauthorized Hajj agencies were shut down and 462 individuals were arrested for violating Hajj regulations.
In addition, health officials stated that 188 Bangladeshi pilgrims received medical treatment during the pilgrimage period. Of them, 19 are currently hospitalized at various government facilities in Saudi Arabia.
This year’s Hajj took place on June 5. The outbound journey of Bangladeshi pilgrims began on April 29, with the final departure flight leaving on May 31.
Bangladesh’s Hajj return operation is being carried out in coordination with the authorities in Saudi Arabia and several domestic agencies. Officials have urged returning pilgrims to follow scheduled flight arrangements and complete airport formalities as instructed.
The annual Islamic pilgrimage saw millions of Muslims from around the world gather in Makkah, performing a series of religious rites as one of the five pillars of Islam. The Hajj is considered a spiritual high point in a Muslim’s life and is obligatory at least once for those who are physically and financially able.
