Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus today (June 6) extended his greetings to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims around the world on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
In a message issued on the eve of Eid, he expressed hope that the festival would bring welfare to all by inspiring the true spirit of sacrifice among people.
“Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, is a powerful symbol of deep devotion and ultimate sacrifice to Almighty Allah,” Chief Adviser said.
He said the example set by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), who prepared to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS) in obedience to Allah’s command, remains unmatched in history and serves as a great lesson for all.
Professor Yunus said the act of animal sacrifice, or Qurbani, encourages the values of self-sacrifice and teaches Muslims to share both joy and sorrow with their relatives and neighbours. It also spreads the message of tolerance.
The Chief Adviser noted that every year, the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha helps build a strong sense of unity and equality among people, especially through distributing the meat of the sacrificed animals to relatives, the poor, and the needy.
He said the holy occasion teaches peace, compassion, sacrifice, and brotherhood. The real spirit of Eid should be about self-purification, self-restraint, kindness, and harmony, he added.
“Let us uphold the lessons of Eid-ul-Azha and work together to build a new Bangladesh after the July Uprising — a nation free from discrimination, and full of happiness, prosperity and peace,” the Chief Adviser said.
He prayed for the continued progress and well-being of Bangladesh and its people.
