Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abdul Kalam Azad Majumder today warned that the interim government will take legal steps against any media outlet spreading false or misleading news.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Azad said that while the government respects press freedom and welcomes criticism, it does not permit the publication of baseless reports.
He asked newspapers to correct recent reports claiming that the freedom fighter status of Mujibnagar government leaders, including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Syed Nazrul Islam, and Tajuddin Ahmad, had been revoked.
Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq E Azam clarified that Mujibnagar leaders were freedom fighters and that associate freedom fighters—such as diplomats and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra members—are equally honored.
He added that changes to the freedom fighter definition in 2018 and 2022 have not affected their status or benefits.
The official statement was also shared via the verified Facebook page of the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
