Shomi Kaiser shown arrested in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court has directed authorities to show actress and former e-CAB president Shomi Kaiser arrested in a new case related to the alleged attempted murder of an Azampur College student in Uttara during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The CMM Court in Dhaka gave this order on Wednesday (April 9) morning.

Earlier, actress Shomi Kaiser was granted bail in a case filed at Uttara East Police Station in the capital on charges of attempted murder on March 12.

On that day, a High Court bench comprising Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman and Justice Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury declared the rule on her bail as absolute and gave this verdict.

Lawyer Hamidul Misbah and lawyer Anisul Hasan were present at the court hearing on behalf of actress Shomi Kaiser. Deputy Attorney General Redwan Ahmed Ranjib and Zisan Haider were present at the hearing for the state.

Actress Shomi Kaiser was arrested from Uttara residence on the night of November 5 last year.

Earlier, Shomi Kaiser had appealed to the High Court for bail in the case. After hearing this application, the High Court issued a rule on December 10 last year and granted her interim bail.

The state appealed to the Appellate Division to suspend this order. In view of this, on December 12, the Appellate Division's Chamber Court suspended the bail and scheduled the state's application for hearing in the regular bench of the Appellate Division.

Then, the Appellate Division upheld the stay order given by the Chamber Court and set a deadline for the High Court to dispose of the rule in this regard. Following this, the verdict was given after the hearing on the rule.

After the Awami League government fell on August 5 in the face of student protests and mass uprisings, Shomi Kaiser resigned from the post of president of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), the organization of e-commerce companies in the country, on August 14.
