Two senior US officials from the State Department are set to visit Dhaka on April 15 and 16.

Nicole Chulick, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, and Andrew Herrup, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asia and the Pacific, will arrive in Dhaka as part of a high-level diplomatic visit under the Trump administration.

According to sources, the officials will hold meetings with the Bangladesh government focusing on reforms and the ongoing Rohingya crisis. Nicole Chulick will be in Dhaka from April 15 to 18 and is expected to discuss ways to support democratic processes and reforms in Bangladesh.

She is also scheduled to meet with leaders of different political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. Meetings with the Chief Adviser, Foreign Affairs Adviser, and other senior officials of the government are also planned.

Joining the visit will be Susan Stevenson, the US Chargé d’Affaires to Myanmar, who is expected to attend some of the discussions.

This will be the first high-level US delegation to visit Bangladesh since President Donald Trump took office. Andrew Herrup is expected to arrive in Dhaka on April 16, a day after Chulick’s arrival.
