Five killed as bus plunges into Faridpur ditch 

Five people were killed and at least 30 injured after a passenger bus veered off the road and overturned into a roadside ditch in Faridpur this morning (April 8).

The accident took place around 11:15 am near the Bakhunda Sharif Jute Mill on the Faridpur-Barisal highway in Sadar Upazila, according to local authorities. 

However, the identities of the deceased could not be known immdiately.

The bus, identified as ‘Hi Dex’ (registration no. Faridpur-J 11-0066), was en route to Faridpur from Tekerhat when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into a ditch.

Rescue operations were launched promptly by local residents and the Fire Service. 

"There were around 40 passengers on board. Almost all of them sustained injuries, and five have died," said Md Nazrul Islam, Senior Station Officer of Faridpur Fire Service. 

He said: "We have taken the injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, and many remain in critical condition."

Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, Md Rakibuzzaman, confirmed the matter.

He also feared that the number could rise as several of the injured are in serious condition.

The official also said further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
