A mild heatwave is currently sweeping across eight districts in Bangladesh, according to a weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today (April 8).
The affected districts include Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Bandarban, and Rangamati. The BMD noted that the heatwave may subside in some areas.
Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to dip slightly across the country, the bulletin added.
Scattered rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds are likely at one or two locations in the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet.
The Met office also reported that a low-pressure area over the central part of the South Bay has shifted slightly northwest and was located over the southwest Bay and adjoining southeast Bay as of 6:00 am today.
It is forecast to move northwest over the next 12 hours and then gradually shift northward. A trough of low pressure also persists over West Bengal and adjoining regions.
The highest temperature in the country on Monday was recorded at 37.6°C in Feni, Chattogram Division, while the lowest was 19.5°C in Rajarhat, Rangpur Division.
In Dhaka, sunset is expected at 6:17 pm today, with sunrise tomorrow at 5:44 am.
