Law enforcers have arrested 49 individuals and filed two separate cases following incidents of vandalism at several commercial establishments during a protest against Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, disclosed the information in a statement issued Tuesday morning (8 April).
On Monday afternoon, demonstrators reportedly targeted a KFC outlet and a Bata showroom in Sylhet, accusing the brands of alleged links with Israel.
The attacks took place in the Mirabazar and Dargagate areas of the city.
Eyewitnesses said a group of protesters stormed the KFC restaurant in Mirabazar around 3pm, damaging multiple soft drink bottles inside the premises. The outlet was subsequently shut down by its management.
Around the same time, another group of protesters vandalized the Bata store located in the Dargagate area.
