Five people were killed and at least 12 injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Lohagara of Chattogram on the morning of Eid day (March 31).
The accident took place at around 7:30 am in the Jangalia Mazar Gate area of the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Md. Jahed, son of Md Parvez, from Padua union in Lohagara upazila; Rifat, son of Alam from the same area; Nazim, son of Nurul Islam from Charpara of the same union; Zian Hossain Opu, son of Amir Hossain from Sukhchhari Moulvipara in Lohagara; and Siddiq, son of Chhattar from Delipara in Satkania upazila.
According to the fire service, upon receiving the information, a unit from the Lohagara fire station immediately rushed to the scene and began rescue operations.
Inspector Rabiul Alam of Lohagara Police Station confirmed the casualties, saying that a bus collided head-on with a minibus, leaving five people dead and 12 others wounded.
Talha bin Jasim, media cell officer at the fire service headquarters, reported that six of the injured were rescued and provided with medical assistance by fire service personnel.
The accident left the local community in shock, with authorities continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision, he added.
