Metrorail and intercity train services in Bangladesh resumed operations on Tuesday (April 1) following a one-day suspension for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Metrorail services restarted as scheduled, with the first train departing Uttara North Station for Motijheel at 7:10 am.
The return service from Motijheel to Uttara North Station began at 7:30 am.
However, passenger turnout remained low in the early hours.
Ahead of Eid, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) had earlier announced via its verified Facebook page that Metrorail services would be suspended only on Eid day, with regular operations continuing on other days.
Similarly, intercity train services, which were halted for Eid, also resumed on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain had earlier stated in an inter-ministerial meeting that train services would be fully operational before Eid, with scheduled day-offs reinstated afterward.
At Dhaka Railway Station, the first intercity train to resume operations, the Tourist Express, departed for Cox's Bazar at 6:15 am, marking the return of nationwide rail services.
