There is no security threat in Dhaka ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali assured on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting security arrangements at the National Eidgah Maidan, where the main Eid congregation will be held, he said, “The residents of Dhaka remained safe throughout Ramadan, and police successfully controlled petty crimes.”
To ensure public safety during the celebrations, 15,000 police personnel will be deployed across the capital.
The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), Detective Branch (DB), and Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) units will also be actively engaged in maintaining security.
"As you know, the Bangladesh Army and other support forces are involved. We are all working together to establish a secure environment in Dhaka," he added.
Regarding concerns over potential unrest, the DMP chief emphasized that security measures are not focused on any single political group but extend to banned organizations to prevent any untoward activities.
At the National Eidgah, worshippers will be required to enter through a designated main gate, where security checks will be conducted. "We urge everyone to follow this route for their own safety," he said.
To further strengthen security, plainclothes detectives and special police teams will be deployed, working in coordination with other law enforcement agencies. A separate entrance and designated prayer area will be arranged for women.
Additionally, a watchtower will be installed for continuous surveillance, while the fire brigade and emergency medical teams will remain on standby.
The commissioner also urged attendees not to carry bags or flammable materials to ensure a safe and smooth Eid prayer experience.
