Bangladesh received a record-breaking remittance inflow in March, with expatriates sending 2.94 billion US dollars (Tk 362.23 billion) in the first 26 days of the month ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and Spokesperson Md Arif Hossain Khan shared the data on Thursday (March 27).
The remittance inflow for the same period last year was 1.61 billion dollars, marking an 82% year-on-year growth. Traditionally, expatriates send more money home during Ramadan to support their families' increased expenses, but this year’s remittance surpasses all previous monthly records.
The last highest remittance inflow was in December 2024, reaching 2.64 billion dollars. Other notable months include February 2025 (2.53 billion dollars), June 2025 (2.54 billion dollars), and July 2020 (2.60 billion dollars).
In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, remittance inflows stood at 21.43 billion dollars. The total remittance for the 2023-24 fiscal year was 23.92 billion dollars, while the previous year recorded 21.61 billion dollars.
