The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a stern warning to those responsible for creating mobs, urging citizens not to take the law into their own hands.
This statement follows the recent assault of Sub-Inspector (SI) Yusuf Ali, who was attacked by a mob while on duty at a checkpost on Patenga Outer Ring Road in Chittagong city.
On Tuesday (March 4), Faisal Hasan, director (Public Relations) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, shared details of the ongoing investigation.
The incident, which occurred on February 28, saw two individuals arrested promptly for initiating the mob.
The police, alongside local residents, successfully rescued SI Yusuf Ali during the chaos.
A subsequent operation on March 1 led to the arrest of 10 more individuals, bringing the total number of arrests to 12.
The arrested individuals are charged under the Speedy Trial Act for harassing the police officer, stealing his mobile phone, wallet, and walkie-talkie, and engaging in drug use and theft.
