The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today deferred until tomorrow the hearing of the leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the state and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), challenging BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's acquittal in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

A five-member bench, headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, issued the deferment order following a request for adjournment by ACC lawyer Ashif Hassan.

Khaleda was acquitted by the High Court on November 27 last year, overturning a lower court verdict from October 29, 2018, which had sentenced her to seven years' imprisonment.

The ACC filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on August 8, 2011, accusing Khaleda and three others of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from unknown sources.
