Fire at Zaman Tower in capital’s Paltan 

A fire broke out at Zaman Tower in the capital’s Paltan area early Wednesday (Feb 26), prompting the deployment of 14 firefighting units to bring the situation under control.

The fire started around 5:35 am, and so far, two people have been rescued from the building, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Rakibul Islam, an official at the Fire Service control room, confirmed the incident. He stated that the first firefighting unit arrived at the scene at 5:40 am after receiving reports of a fire on the fourth floor of Zaman Tower. 

Additional units were subsequently deployed, bringing the total to 14, with more on the way. The fire has spread from the fourth to the fifth floor.

However, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and Rakibul Islam was unable to provide details on casualties or damage.

Anwarul Islam Dolon, a spokesperson for the Fire Service media cell, said, “We received reports of a fire on the fourth and fifth floors of the building. Currently, 14 units are working to contain it. So far, we have rescued two men alive. We have no information about anyone else being trapped inside. However, we are fully prepared to evacuate anyone if needed. Additionally, no reports of missing persons have been received.”
