The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) has clarified that the Bangladesh Army has no scope to be involved in the upcoming central student union elections at various universities.
In a press release issued on Wednesday (August 28), ISPR said reports circulating in different media outlets and on social media about army deployment in the elections had come to its attention.
It said the government has not given any instructions assigning the Bangladesh Army to carry out duties in these elections, and there is no possibility of such involvement in the future.
The release further stated that the army believes the upcoming central student union elections will be held peacefully and in a festive environment with the direct assistance of existing law enforcement agencies and under the overall supervision of university authorities.
