Fishing boats, trawlers advised to stay ashore

Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department has issued an advisory instructing fishing boats and trawlers to refrain from venturing into deep sea areas until further notice, due to the possibility of a low-pressure system developing over the northern Bay of Bengal.

The directive was issued on Monday (August 25), as a precautionary measure.

Meteorologist A.K.M. Nazmul Haque stated that while there is currently no forecast of squally weather over the country’s coastal regions, seaports, or the northern Bay of Bengal, the situation could change.

As a result, all maritime ports—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra—have been instructed to lower any cautionary signals.

He added that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 48 hours.

Therefore, fishing boats and trawlers currently in the region have been advised to remain close to shore and avoid deep-sea operations until further guidance is issued.
