Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain today said the Election Commission is moving ahead with the necessary preparations to hold a free, fair and acceptable national election.

“The government is going to announce a roadmap for the national elections. The EC will work as per the roadmap. We are following zero tolerance against any crime and mob,” he told journalists after visiting the under-construction Shri Shri Advaita Acharya Temple complex in Rajagaon, on the banks of the Jadukata River in Tahirpur upazila.

Dr Khalid stressed that there is no scope for communal violence in the name of elections. “Alongside the government, all security forces are taking necessary preparations to hold a fair and beautiful election,” he said.

He noted the tenure of the current administration is short. “We are here for a short time. If we had more time, we could have done even more. Soon, we will hand over power to an elected government and return to our regular lives,” he added.

Among others present were Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Elias Mia, Assistant Superintendent of Police Zakir Hossain, LGED Executive Engineer Anwar Hossain, and Advait Roy, general secretary of the temple committee.
