Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain departed Dhaka on Sunday morning (July 27) to participate in the “High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The two-day ministerial-level gathering, taking place on July 28 and 29, is being co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81, which was adopted in December 2024.
During the conference, the adviser will join foreign ministers and senior United Nations officials in efforts to revive international support for the two-state solution amid the worsening humanitarian and political situation in Gaza.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Touhid Hossain is expected to return to Bangladesh on August 1.
He is expected to reiterate Bangladesh’s steadfast support for the rights of the Palestinian people and the realisation of a viable two-state solution.
According to ministry sources, Bangladesh will also reaffirm its commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and relevant resolutions of the Security Council and General Assembly, while advocating for a credible, time-bound framework to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
Bangladesh has long championed the Palestinian cause in international forums and was among the first nations to recognise the State of Palestine following its declaration of independence in 1988.
