The National Consensus Commission is holding talks with political parties today after a three-day break to reach agreement on reform commission recommendations and finalise the proposed ‘July Charter’.

The meeting began at 10:30am on Thursday at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka. Key issues on the agenda include the caretaker government system, appointment of the Chief Justice, and declaration of a state of emergency, commission sources said.

The meeting is chaired by Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Ali Riaz and attended by members Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr Md Ayub Mia, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.

Representatives from 30 political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, Gono Odhikar Parishad, CPB, Biplobi Workers Party and AB Party, are taking part.

Bangladesh Television is broadcasting the session live.
