March for Gaza: Protesters urge Muslim nations to boycott Israel

Leaders from various faith-based organisations and political groups have urged the Muslim world to sever ties with Israel, condemning the nation for its continued brutal actions in Gaza.

During a rally at Dhaka’s historic Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday, Mahmudur Rahman, editor of the daily Amar Desh, delivered a formal declaration.

The statement called on religious figures worldwide to speak out and intensify pressure on Israel to bring an end to the conflict.

Before the declaration was read, Maulana Mamunul Haque, Islamic speaker Mizanur Rahman Azhari, and Hasnat Abdullah, the main organizer of the southern region of the National Citizen Party, chanted slogans demanding the liberation of Palestine. At that time, Suhrawardy Udyan was filled to the brim with people.

After the declaration was read, millions of hands were raised to the Almighty Allah. The prayer Baitul Mukarram's Khatib and March for Gaza program president Maulana Abdul Malek began at 4 pm. In the prayer, he spoke about accepting the 'March for Gaza' program. He prayed for the protection of the Palestinians.

Islamic speaker Mizanur Rahman Azhari, Shaykh Ahmadullah, founder of the Safe Roads Movement Ilias Kanchan, Nagorik Party's southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman, Shibir central president Zahedul Islam, Islami Andolan Bangladesh senior Nayeb Amir Syed Faizul Karim, presidium member Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, Chhatra Shibir central leader Sadiq Kayem, Khilafat Majlish Amir Maulana Mamunul Haque, activist Saimum Sadi, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Islami Oikya Jote Secretary General Maulana Sakhawat Hossain Razi and Gana Adhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, BNP senior joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, standing committee members Salah Uddin Ahmed and Baitul Mufti Abdul Malek, Khatib of Mukarram attended the event.

The millions of people who came to the rally today have called Israel's ongoing aggression in Gaza a 'crime against humanity'. 

They demanded effective intervention by the international community to stop this genocide. At the same time, they urged the government to take a strong diplomatic stance on the Palestinian issue.

Meanwhile, the presence of people joining the 'March for Gaza' has turned the surrounding areas including Suhrawardy Udyan into a crowd. There is no place to step in the TSC area of Dhaka University. Many have come with various symbols. Through these, they express their support for Palestine and their hatred for Israel. Many have raised multiple slogans against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump.

On the ground, people from different parts of the country gathered in Suhrawardy Udyan with small processions. People were seen standing and shouting slogans in favor of Palestine at various places including Shahbagh, Central Shaheed Minar, Dhaka University TSC area, Matsya Bhaban, Doyel Chattar.

The Dhaka University Metrorail station is closed due to the March for Gaza program. In addition, due to the presence of people from various points, traffic jams have been created on the roads around Dhaka University and Suhrawardy Udyan. Such scenes of traffic jams were seen around the capital's Farmgate, Kawran Bazar, Bangla Motor and Shahbagh areas.
