Bangladesh Navy ship brings 120T relief to Yangon

Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Somudra Avijan arrived in Yangon today, carrying over 120 metric tons of humanitarian aid for the earthquake-affected people of Myanmar.

The relief consignment, which includes 75.5 metric tons of dry food, hygiene kits, water, tents, and emergency supplies, marks the second phase of Bangladesh’s support initiative.

At a handover ceremony at the MITT jetty, Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Dr. M Monwar Hossain presented the aid to Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein.

Dr. Hossain emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to standing by Myanmar during crises and praised the Armed Forces for their relief and rescue efforts earlier this month.

The Ambassador also handed over 800 boxes of hygiene kits to the Myanmar Red Cross and thanked the Somudra Avijan crew for their service.

This shipment is the largest aid consignment sent by Bangladesh this year.

The first phase, delivered on March 30 and April 1, included 31.5 metric tons of relief flown in by Bangladesh Air Force and Army aircraft, supported by a 55-member rescue team.

Government officials, diplomats, and military representatives attended the ceremony.
