No arrests in anti-discrimination movement cases without evidence: DMP

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has instructed investigators not to arrest any individuals named in complaints related to the recent anti-discrimination movement without sufficient evidence and prior approval from senior officials.

The directive was issued in an official order signed by DMP Joint Commissioner (Crime) Md Faruk Hossain on Wednesday, April 9.

“It has been observed that most of the cases filed in connection with the anti-discrimination movement contain a large number of accused,” the order said.

“Arrests must be made only with the approval of higher authorities and based on credible evidence such as victim or eyewitness testimony, video or audio footage, still images, or call detail records (CDRs)”, it added.

The order further said that no arrests should be carried out without concrete evidence and authorisation from senior command.
