Bangladesh’s Election Commission (EC) has removed over 25 lakh deceased individuals from the national voter list as part of its ongoing door-to-door verification campaign.
The number of 'deceased voters' may rise as the update progresses.
In addition, nearly 60 lakh new voters are expected to be added, according to a report compiled by Md Abdul Momin Sarkar, Director of the National Identity Registration Division.
So far, data from 60,00,832 individuals has been collected. Of them, 28,29,228 are male, 31,70,549 are female, and 1,055 identify as third gender. Among these, 49,95,024 have completed full registration by providing photographs and fingerprints.
The update process has also confirmed the removal of 20,53,526 deceased voters — including 11,81,205 men, 8,71,750 women, and 573 individuals of third gender.
The registration campaign will continue until April 11.
Following the latest update, Bangladesh’s total number of registered voters stands at 123,732,274.
