Political dialogue on National Charter to begin soon

The National Consensus Commission is working to engage political parties in discussions promptly, aiming to reach an agreement quickly to draft a "National Charter."

Vice President of the commission, Prof. Ali Riaz, shared this during a press conference at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building on Monday (March 10) morning.

Among those present at the conference were commission members Badiul Alam Majumdar, Iftekharuzzaman, Abdul Muid Chowdhury, Safar Raj Hossain, Emdadul Haque, and the Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for Consensus, Monir Haider.

Prof. Riaz mentioned that the commission has reached out to 34 political parties and alliances to gather their views on 166 critical reform recommendations.

The commission expects to receive responses by March 13. Once the feedback is received, discussions will commence, though no specific dates have been confirmed yet.

Prof. Riaz encouraged the political parties and alliances to submit their opinions as soon as possible, as discussions will start immediately after receiving the feedback.

"The next steps depend on the political parties. We aim to begin talks quickly and reach an agreement in a short period to create a 'National Charter,'" he explained.

The six reform commissions, established in October of last year, submitted their final reports to the government on February 8.

Prof. Riaz clarified that the key recommendations from five of the commissions were structured into a comprehensive format. However, the Police Reform Commission’s recommendations were not included, as they believe their suggestions can be implemented through administrative measures.

The structured proposals were sent to 34 political parties and alliances on March 6, containing 166 recommendations. These include 70 recommendations on constitutional reforms, 27 on electoral reforms, 23 on judicial reforms, 26 on public administration reforms, and 20 on anti-corruption measures.

At the press conference, Prof. Riaz noted that feedback was sought on two aspects of each recommendation." give me some news hadline in 8 words
