Bangladesh produced a stunning all-round performance to crush the West Indies by 179 runs and seal the three-match ODI series 2–1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
On a pitch that had challenged batters earlier in the series, openers Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan turned the game into a batting exhibition with a record 176-run stand — Bangladesh’s highest opening partnership at Mirpur. Saif hammered 80 off 72 balls with six sixes and six fours, while Soumya narrowly missed a century, scoring 91 off 86 balls.
Their partnership laid the platform for Bangladesh’s commanding total, though the middle order struggled to maintain momentum. Tawhid Hridoy made 28, and Najmul Hossain Shanto added 44, while late contributions from Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17) and Nurul Hasan (16*) pushed the total beyond reach.
In reply, the West Indies were bundled out for 117 in 30.1 overs, undone by Bangladesh’s spin quartet. Nasum Ahmed led with three wickets, while Tanvir Islam, Rishad Hossain, and Miraz shared the rest. It was only the second time in Bangladesh’s ODI history that all 10 wickets were taken by spinners — and the first without any pacer strikes.
The 179-run victory marks Bangladesh’s second-biggest ODI win and their largest ever against the West Indies, ending a run of four consecutive series defeats. The teams now head to Chattogram for the T20 series starting Monday.
