Bangladesh under-23 national football team ended their AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign on a high note, thrashing Singapore 4-1 in their final group match on Tuesday at Viet Tri Stadium in Vietnam.
After defeats to Vietnam (0-2) and Yemen (0-1), the young Tigers were determined to finish with pride. Despite a goalless first half, Bangladesh dominated the second half, netting four goals in just 12 minutes.
Fahamedul Islam broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, followed quickly by Al-Amin in the 72nd. Mohsin Ahmed extended the lead in the 80th, while Sheikh Morsalin sealed the fourth in the 82nd minute. Singapore’s Nadim pulled one back in added time, but it was too late for a comeback.
The result placed Bangladesh third in the group standings, ruling them out of qualification. In the other group fixture, Vietnam and Yemen — both with two wins — are set to face off for direct qualification as group champions.
