Paris Saint-Germain battled past Bayern Munich with a tense 2–0 victory in Atlanta, sealing a spot in the Club World Cup semi-finals despite a string of setbacks, including a serious injury to Jamal Musiala and two late red cards.
The match’s turning point came in the 78th minute when Champions League final hero Désiré Doué broke the deadlock with a sharp left-footed drive into the far corner.
Despite playing with nine men after Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez were sent off, Ousmane Dembélé added a second goal deep into injury time, sealing a date with Real Madrid in the last four.
The first half ended scoreless but was marred by a worrying incident involving Musiala, who collided with PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while chasing a loose pass.
The Bayern youngster clutched his left ankle as medics rushed in, casting a shadow over the tournament.
Earlier, Dayot Upamecano had a headed goal chalked off for offside, while Bayern’s veteran keeper Manuel Neuer produced a brilliant save to deny Bradley Barcola.
PSG’s discipline unravelled late on—Pacho was dismissed for a reckless lunge on Leon Goretzka, and Hernandez followed suit after catching Raphael Guerreiro with an elbow.
VAR played its part, overturning a late Bayern penalty initially given for a challenge by Nuno Mendes on Thomas Müller. England’s Harry Kane also saw his effort disallowed for offside.
The defeat marked the end of an era for Müller, who came on for Kingsley Coman and bowed out from Bayern after 17 trophy-laden years at his boyhood club.
With Real Madrid awaiting in the semi-final and PSG short-handed, all eyes turn to how Luis Enrique’s side will regroup under pressure.
